Consumer law requires that any trader should sell goods which are of satisfactory quality and are correctly described. They should also carry out work with reasonable care and skill. If they do not, individual customers are entitled to seek financial redress.
Trading Standards Accredited (TSA) builds on these legal requirements ensuring that members trade legally, honestly and fairly and offer good quality customer care.Trading Standards Accredited members agree to abide by the requirements of our Code of Practice.
The checks we carry out on applicants seek to establish that the prospective member’s business is properly run and has a good history. We cannot check the quality of the goods or services offered by each member and this cannot be guaranteed by the scheme. This applies equally to the financial standing of a Scheme member.
What we do guarantee is that, in the unlikely event that you use a TSA member and things go wrong, trading standards will get involved in your query and seek to resolve it via the Scheme’s complaint procedure (full details can be found in the Code Of Practice). If the member is at fault, they will be asked to remedy the situation and may be warned about their conduct or removed from the scheme altogether.
Information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge. However, this information must not be taken in any way as a warranty by us of the status of any individual trader. We will not accept any liability whatsoever arising out of the use of the information obtained through the Trading Standards Accredited scheme.
